Custom Waterproof Shade Sail – Inner Courtyard Installation
This project features a sharp, custom-designed waterproof shade sail installed within an inner courtyard, providing reliable weather protection while maintaining a clean architectural aesthetic.
Manufactured from Serge Ferrari 502 premium PVC, the sail is fully waterproof and track-mounted along the inner corner of the building, creating a seamless and durable interface with the house. The sail tapers elegantly down to a single external post, delivering both visual lightness and effective water shedding.
The sail was digitally site-measured, CAD-designed, and CNC-plotted, ensuring a precise fit down to the millimetre. All joins are high-frequency welded, with diagonal seam placement chosen for both strength and visual alignment. The perimeter is fully high-frequency welded and reinforced with a stainless steel perimeter wire for long-term shape retention and tensioning.
Constructed using PTFE UV-resistant thread where stitching is required, the sail is designed for longevity in harsh outdoor conditions. A tensioned stainless steel support wire was also installed beneath the sail to allow for the future addition of integrated lighting.
A highly technical solution delivered with a refined, minimal finish—engineered for performance, durability, and architectural harmony.

Lashed Shade Sail
This shade sail was secured in place using UV-treated cord. By eliminating the need for fittings like turnbuckles, we were able to design the shade sail larger, thereby increasing the overall level of shade cover.

A waterproof shade sail that also protects from the sun’s harmful rays and lets a good amount of light through. Made from Serge Ferrari 502 fabric, it will look great and perform well for years to come.

Waterproof Shade Sail Replacement
At about 10 or 12 years old, this shade sail had reached the end of its serviceable life. The mounting hardware was still fine – so we simply made a replacement skin, reusing existing hardware. Much cheaper than starting from scratch!
