What is Dye sublimation?
Dye sublimation on fabric is a printing process that uses heat and pressure to transfer dye into the fibers of a fabric, resulting in vibrant, long-lasting images. Here’s how it works:
The Process:Design Preparation:
A design or image is created digitally and mirrored (flipped horizontally) before printing.
Printing on Transfer Paper:
Special sublimation ink is used to print the design onto a coated transfer paper.
Heat Transfer:
The transfer paper is placed onto the fabric, and heat and pressure are applied using a heat press.
Typical temperatures are around 375°F to 400°F (190°C to 205°C) for 30-60 seconds.
Sublimation:
The heat converts the sublimation ink into a gas without passing through a liquid phase (sublimation).
The dye gas penetrates the fabric’s surface, bonding with polyester molecules or coating.
Cooling:
After the transfer process, the dye solidifies and becomes a permanent part of the fabric.
Characteristics:
Material Compatibility:
Works best with polyester or polyester-coated fabrics. Natural fibers like cotton require a special coating.
Durability:
The print is embedded in the fabric, making it resistant to fading, cracking, or peeling.
Vivid Colors:
Produces sharp and vibrant colors due to the deep penetration of the dye.
Soft Finish:
Since the dye is absorbed into the fibers, the fabric retains its original texture and softness.
Applications:
Apparel: Custom sportswear, T-shirts, leggings.
Home Decor: Curtains, cushions, tablecloths.
Promotional Products: Flags, banners, tote bags.
Industrial Use: Customized upholstery and large-format fabric printing.
Acrylic Canvas Table Cover in Taupe
These photos showcase the water-repellent properties of the marine-grade acrylic canvas used in our outdoor covers. Any visible creases or scuffs on the fabric are due to the manufacturing process and packaging for delivery; these will naturally fade with exposure to the elements over time.
Lashed Shade Sail
This shade sail was secured in place using UV-treated cord. By eliminating the need for fittings like turnbuckles, we were able to design the shade sail larger, thereby increasing the overall level of shade cover.
